To help in understanding which method of contact to use the following rough guidance may help, please keep in mind that these are only rough guidelines, residents should always assess the situation and consider their method of contact carefully:
Community Action Team Voicemail 0845 458 6393 (answering service) or Email: This should be used for non-urgent information requesting contact or leaving information for your local officer. This will usually be unrelated to a specific incident.
Incident Reporting 0845 458 0000: To report an incident, directly to a call handler, where there is no immediate threat to life or limb and no immediate threat of damage to property. Typical examples could include noise nuisance/anti-social behaviour where offenders are still present or likely to be in the area, dangerous driving or any other non-urgent or non-life threatening incident.
Emergency 999: To be used where there is threat to life or limb or to prevent damage to property.

HOMEWATCH LOCAL NEWS
In his newsletter this month Adam said that he is pleased with the amount of information he has had from the public over the last few months and by the fact that people feel able to approach him. Some of this information has been valuable and has already been acted on. He stresses that it is all treated as anonymous and gives some hints on how to report incidents. Try to include time, date, location, vehicle registration, description of individuals and if it is a recurrent problem try to record a pattern of behaviour.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR COMMUNITY MORE SECURE By being a good neighbour, and keeping an eye out for
anything suspicious you can help to make your community more secure. These are some of the things you should report:
Strangers knocking on front doors or peering through windows then disappearing round the back, or loitering suspiciously; Strangers hanging round schools, playing fields, etc and approaching children; Open windows in houses where the owners are out or on holiday; Strangers trying car doors; Anything that you believe is suspicious. |

DETAILS ARE IMPORTANT
Whenever you pass on information, remember that accurate descriptions of suspected people and vehicles, etc, will save time and confusion. This is the information the police will need:
an exact description of what you have seen; the time; the place; the person(s) involved: approximate age, sex, height, build, unusual characteristics, clothing worn, and any other distinguishing features;
the vehicles involved: registration number (even part of this number might help), make and model (if known), colour and direction of travel. |
